avoid cliche places like diner and a movie thats just boring do something different like have a picnic and fly kites, or do something you would never do like finger paint, make jewelry, or just go for a walk somewhere. be cheap and creative... things that cost money are just to show you have money and you can pay for things, make you date know that you are fun and have them enjoy themselves before you start doing the normal things you can do any day.

Dinner date.
Having a dinner surrounded by the sea and the reflection of the stars, one of the most romantic dating spots I can think of.

the thing about the first date is not making it too heavy -like a dinner. you have to keep it light. and what is really cool is going to different place on the same day - for example you can meet at a coffee place, grab a coffee and go to a park, later you can go to a club. switching locations a great way to create a feeling of comfort in a short peroid of time.

Besides eating out, you can go for bird watching.

I would listen to this guy, rather than the others in this post. This makes the most sense and is the most creative. Step out of the usual dating spots, try something new.

It depends on where you and your date feels comfortable on staying or hangin' out.
If both of you are adventurous, go for an adventurous date. Or you could let her experience a different one.
Common setting for a first date is a romantic dinner date. Of course you would want to make your first date memorable.
But for me, it would be more enjoyable if you prepare a date which is unique, memorable, and different.
The important thing is, both of you would enjoy. :-)

I love going on dates to Zoos, particularly out of season. I don't necessarily agree with keeping wild animals in cages but as they are there and zoos are trying to keep species from extinction that it is the least we can do to try and help. But as animals show our softer side and are interesting to go see then they are the perfect backdrop for a date. There are plenty of discussion points, plenty of things to chat about which relate to past experiences and lots of walking together.

I like the first date to be very casual with no pressure, just talking over a cup of coffee is fine with me.

Take her to a dinner, then take her to a place where you can see the city, somewhere where you can watch the lights of the city.

movies = dumb idea, unless you are they are really that dull. Why watch others have dialogue when you two should be
dinner = another bad idea for a first date... no reason to escalate things into feeding each other... plus... its a bit extravagant as who flips the bill? Its nice to treat someone, but be realistic... fancy dinners never impress anyone (unless they are made at home)... why start off this way? Plus "guys pay" is a bit old fashioned and isnt really practiced that much anymore.
meet in a cafe, bar, whatever... great time to just focus on getting to know each other, there is foottraffic for people watching, plenty of opportunity to let the natural humor flow and its always easy to get up and go for a walk or hope to another place...
