A little about me, I'm recently divorced after several years in a bad marriage. I'm now 30ish lol, and ready to get out into the dating "scene" again (as much as I'm sure it's changed since I last dated, and as scary as it is.)
Here's the scenario. It was time for my 2 children's annual teeth cleaning, and our regular family dentist no longer accepted our insurance and referred us to another office. When I made the appointment the name of one of the doctors in the office rang a bell, the same as someone I'd gone to school with (but wasn't very close to), and had a huge crush on throughout most of junior high and high school.
After my oldest had his teeth cleaned, the dentist emerged from the back office, came into the waiting area and reached to shake my hand, and said "Have we met before?" It was him! I smiled and replied with, "Yes we went to school together." He said he'd thought so, and went on to ask me how I was, was I staying out of trouble, etc. Then he returned to the back office, saying he'd see me again in a few minutes, Then his nurse asked me to come to the back to look over the X-rays with the dentist. So there the two of us were and the conversation went a little like this. (the whole time I'm thinking oh my God! he's cuter now than he was back then)
Him: so how what have you been up to? Do you see anyone from school anymore?
Me: not much, I moved away not long after graduation and lost contact with a lot of people, so now that I'm back its fun to hear about what everyone has been doing.
him: (he goes on about a few people we knew and what they were up to)
Me: so what about your brother, what's he up to these days?
Him: he got married about three years ago, and is actually living very close to where you live now. (he'd gotten my address off the medical file). People keep asking me if I'm ready to settle down yet, and I keep thinking, well maybe soon.
Me: (thinking whoa he's single YES!) I recently divorced after thirteen years.
him: wow, you must have got married right after we got out of school. Who did you marry?
Me: do you remember "so & so".......
I'll skip some in order to shorten the story, we go on blah blah for a few minutes, giggle and smile at each other a little, he makes a few jokes with my oldest child and he then says he's ready to have a look at my youngest and he'll be back with me in a few minutes. He comes back and out teases me about now "mortified" my youngest was that we went to school together, and the two of us once again go off into reminiscing about our school days. When we are ready to leave he walks me to the front desk, and says how great it was to see me again, I said yes it was, and please extend my hellos to anyone I might have known that he still sees from school. He said he would, and reached to shake my hand, I took his hand and then he said "oh come on, we can give hugs around here" and proceeds to pull me in for a quick friendly hug, telling me once again how nice it was to see me, and I reply again, it was great and please don't be a stranger. (my lame attempt to hint at him to call me up).
Now I'm dying because I think there could have been a million ways to find out if he was seeing someone, and better ways to hint to him that I was interested in "catching up." I was trying to be flirtatious (without being overly, since we were in his place of business) I wanted to seem interested, ( and get him interested but I just don't know how to do it). He seemed intrigued and very friendly, more so than I thought he would be, but perhaps I'm ready too much in? I'm really hoping he will call, but doubt he will.
I won't see him again for 6 months, when the kids need their teeth cleaned again. I'm already thinking about chipping one of their front teeth so I have a reason to go in again. (kidding, sort of, haha) But seriously, should I send a friendly note to the office, or sit back and wait and hope he calls? Kick myself for not being more obvious or asking more questions about his availability? Thoughts? Suggestions? Help! What do I do?
